Managing Director

Robert was educated and commenced his career in financial services in the capital city. After 12 years as CFO and a Director of Southpac Investment Management, Robert left Wellington for Auckland. Three years as CFO and Head of Operations and a Vice President of BT Funds Management, he embarked on the establishment of MMC in 2001.

With an ardent, hands-on approach to running a business, Robert is intricately involved in the day-to-day activities including business and relationship development, strategy review and implementation, financial management and company governance and staff leadership.

Robert is a keen supporter of a variety of sports but these days confines his competing to the tennis court and golf course.

Chief Executive Officer

Raised on the Kapiti Coast, Tom remained in the Wellington region to attend university and kick-off his career. He spent his first seven years working for UDC Finance, ANZ Banking and then Southpac Investment Management, where he met Robert. Following Robert up to Auckland, Tom spent the next three years working with him as Accounting Manager and a Vice President of BT Funds Management. A two year stretch in the sun in the Cayman Islands with Bank of Butterfield International and then back to New Zealand, and Robert, and the beginning of MMC.

Tom is passionate about efficient operational processes and procedures, compliant internal controls and best market practice IT solutions. He is in his element evaluating the development and improvement of MMC’s systems and implementing the set-up and transition of new clients.

On the rare occasion when Tom’s not occupied with work, in winter he’ll be coaching his son’s club rugby team or in summer he’ll be out boating with his family - racing the kids on jet skis or relaxing with some recreational fishing.

Chief Operating Officer

Graduating from Victoria University, Paul went to work in the audit team for Price Waterhouse in Wellington before leaving for London. A project accountant for Schroder Investment Management and then Product Control - Equity Derivatives for Credit Suisse Investment Bank, Paul left London for the Cayman Islands. Three years as Senior Manager Audit (Funds Management) for PricewaterhouseCoopers, Paul returned to New Zealand and spent six months in their Auckland office before joining the MMC team in 2007.

Paul now oversees the day-to-day running of MMC’s fund and investment administration business.

Mountain biking is Paul’s main passion outside the office.

Chief Strategy Officer

Chris qualified as a chartered accountant at Pannell Kerr Foster in London. Once qualified he joined Credit Suisse First Boston as a Product Controller and then, being promoted to Assistant Vice President, Chris was posted to New York for two years. After returning to London Chris moved to BNP Paribas before joining Brevan Howard, where he became the Head of Fund Accounting. Having married a New Zealander, Chris moved to Auckland in 2006 and joined MMC in early 2007.

Chris has over 17 years’ experience in the financial services industry, working in back office roles for investment banks and hedge funds. With a focus on accounting for financial products, portfolio valuation and process improvement, Chris’ role includes reviewing current operational processes and implementing change management.

Manager, Registry Services

Portia worked for BoE (now Nedcor Bank, one of the largest banks in South Africa) for both BoE Private Bank and BoE Unit Trusts. Moving to New Zealand in 2001, Portia was employed by New Zealand Funds Management and BT Funds Management before joining MMC in 2004.

With 20 years’ experience in financial services, Portia is responsible for the management of MMC’s registry business - providing training and guidance to her teams.

Outside of work, Portia enjoys spending time with her husband, teenage son and family dog Lui. Portia’s hobbies include collecting and restoring vintage furniture, as well as working out and eating healthy to keep fit.

Chief Information Officer

Employed by an enterprise resource planning (ERP) firm that offered overseas travel, Craig left university to work in Hong Kong for the Government Supplies Department, then Atlanta (Georgia) in the US for Ross Systems, followed by Seguin (Texas) in the US for a steel mill. After an overseas experience across Europe, Craig found another ERP firm to work for in Amsterdam in Holland. Craig eventually came home to settle in New Zealand and worked for Advantage Group before heading out on his own contracting.

While contracting, Craig architected various successful systems including one for MMC. The relationship with MMC continued and Craig was eventually employed to lead MMC’s technology team in 2012.

With three children to take up any spare time, Craig is passing on his prowess in both soccer and music to his progenies. Having completed a half marathon last year he is hoping to make room in the near future to run the full 42 kms.

BCMS (Hons) (Waikato University)

Manager, Client Services and Marketing

Straight from university to work for Australasian research house ipac Securities, Nicola developed an interest in the managed funds industry and went on to spend a total of 13 years with New Zealand Funds Management. An urge to travel saw a two year period as UK Product Manager for North American brokerage firm Edward Jones and then, more latterly, four years off to sail the world.

With over 17 years’ experience in the UK, US and New Zealand financial services industries, Nicola is responsible for providing relationship management services and preparing MMC’s marketing and communications material.

When she’s not looking after clients or penning a paragraph or two, Nicola will be out playing on the water - either racing around the harbour buoys or anchored up in one of the many serene bays of the Hauraki Gulf.

Manager, Risk and Compliance

After starting her career as an accountant for Eagle Star Insurance in the UK, Leigh’s introduction to funds management began at Threadneedle Asset Management where she led the unit pricing team.

After moving back to New Zealand in 2002, Leigh spent nine years at Suncorp as Manager of Fund Accounting before being appointed by Sovereign/ASB as Manager of Unit Pricing and Investment Reporting.

Leigh joined MMC in 2015 after 21 years, and various management positions, within the financial services industry. In her role as Risk and Compliance Manager, Leigh is responsible for any policies and frameworks, incident and issues reporting, review and monitoring of systems and processes and undertaking any quality assurance assessments.

On the weekend you will find Leigh relaxing with her family at home or enjoying their bach on the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula.

ACCA (Association of Certified Chartered Accountants)

Manager, Unit Pricing

Yet another of MMC’s Victoria University graduates, Scott returned home to Napier after his studies to work for PricewaterhouseCoopers’ private client services and audit teams. With a bigger city beckoning, Scott moved north to Auckland in 2007 and joined MMC.

Scott has a long list of accounting and financial services experience, including reconciliations, fund accounting, unit pricing, unit trust PIE registry, performance measurement, system testing, process improvement and efficiency and client reporting.

A competitive motor sports contender, Scott has recently hung up his helmet to spend more time on the greens at golf courses across Auckland. When not playing golf, Scott enjoys being out on the gulf fishing with mates. He also loves to travel, booking holidays in both ordinary and off the beaten track locations.

Manager, Settlements

With a Computer Studies diploma and an Information Management degree, Tracy spent a couple of years with the Northern Ireland Court Service before heading to the Southern Hemisphere. Her travels detoured her through Australia but she adopted New Zealand as her new home working for New Zealand Guardian Trust and then Suncorp Group.

Leading a team of three at MMC, Tracy liaises with brokers and custodians for trade settlements, undertakes project work implementing new processes and systems and manages transitions and the on-boarding of new clients.

Tracy likes to spend her time outside of work socialising with friends. In summer her venue of choice is to be out soaking up the sun on our great New Zealand beaches.
